Graduate Studies

The VCU Department of Mechanical Engineering offers graduate programs leading to the degrees of Masters of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering ( click here for brochure ). A new Masters of Science degree program in Nuclear Engineering began in 2007 ( click here for brochure ).

The Mechanical Engineering track is designed primarily for students who have an interest in pursuing research in the variety of areas of mechanical engineering. Those include but are not limited to thermal sciences, materials, design and manufacturing, and computational mechanics. Emphasis is placed on modern research areas such as smart materials, flow controls, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), nanotechnology and biomechanics. The Nuclear Engineering track prepares engineers for careers in the nuclear power-generation industry and in the nuclear regulatory government agencies.
