Welcome

Computer Science has experienced phenomenal growth, and employment opportunities are excellent. Computer Science is that body of knowledge and research associated with the development and utilization of computers. It includes material associated with pure and applied mathematics, as well as the more technology-focused areas typical of engineering subjects. In addition, the development of computer systems has led to the development of programming languages, operating systems, relational databases and many other areas of study that have no counterpart in other disciplines.

Computer scientists work in practically every aspect of the modern world — in business, manufacturing, aerospace and avionics, defense-related research and development, cryptography telecommunications, medical research and treatment, all fields of engineering, education, entertainment, scientific research and applications, mathematics and theoretical research, and more.

VCU's Computer Science program was the first to be accredited in the state of Virginia (1988). All classes are relatively small and are taught by regular, full-time faculty in well-equipped classrooms. Students and faculty enjoy a friendly camaraderie.
