Every year the ACM (the professional organization for computer science) sponsors an international programming competition. This competition challenges students to write correct solutions to as many problems as possible in a fixed amount of time. The problems are difficult and the students must work in teams to solve them using the programming language Java. The Computer Science department works with students in order to enter a team into the ACM Programming Competition. Additionally, Microsoft Corporation sponsors an international competition called the Imagine Cup. This competition has several categories all of which require a team of students to develop a quality product over several months. VCU has sent teams to the Imagine Cup that have done very well (winning the national competition). If you are interested in participating in this competition, please contact Chair of the ACM and Imagine Cup Competitions.
