Contest date: Friday March 6, 2009
This is a challenging and fun opportunity for High School
students to improve their Java programming skills. The contest will
encourage the development of creative problem solving and communication
skills as students work with their teammates to generate solutions to
programming problems.
Who can participate?
High school students in grades 10, 11 and 12 are invited to enter.
Students will work in four-person teams. Each school may enter up to
two
teams (a third team may be accepted if space allows).
The contest is limited to the first 30 teams that register prior to February 6, 2009.
Third teams from a school will be accepted after
the deadline if space allows.
What is the contest?
The contest will be held in the Computer Lab in the Engineering
Building at VCU. Teams will be given problems to solve using Java and
will have three hours to implement solutions. Solutions will be judged
for correctness and speed of solving. Complete contest specifications

AWARDS and SCHOLARSHIPS
The First Place winning team will be awarded a VCU Computer Science
scholarship for $2000 per year (for each student) up to four years
(conditioned on maintaining an overall minimum GPA of 3.2), the Second
$1500, and the third $1000.
Registration Information
Entries and fees must be received by February 6, 2009. The

The entry fee is $100.00 per team. This includes one parking pass
per team. All participants will receive lunch
and a commemorative t-shirt. Checks should be made payable to VCU
