Undergraduate students
Get experience
OK, so you may have read that VCU believes
in providing “real-world” experience. Well, it’s true. As a student in the Department of Chemical and
Life Science Engineering, you are afforded many opportunities to learn through experience. You may have seen in
your program details that all engineering students must participate in an engineering-related
internship. But we like to take it a step further. We also encourage you to seek part-time/full-time employment and
cooperative education assignments that require you to put into practice what you have learned in the classroom. We call
this experiential learning and it’s proven to reinforce everything you have read or heard in the classroom.
Senior design projects
Each year, the senior class participates in a
schoolwide senior design show, where teams of students present their work to faculty and area business leaders. The show
is open to the public. For more information about project requirements or announcements regarding the design show, visit
the Capstone
Senior Design Web site.
Undergraduate Research Opportunities
Many of our most promising undergraduate students are involved in cutting-edge research projects with department faculty. Students can earn undergraduate technical elective credits while being exposed to the exciting world of graduate research.
