With a population of more than 900,000, Richmond, the capital of Virginia since 1779, still manages to retain a small-town feel. Located along the James River, showcasing class V rapids, Richmond has a vast history that can be seen along cobblestone streets and brick sidewalks. The city is filled with museums exhibiting collections of art, science and literature, boutiques and specialty stores, and quaint neighborhood restaurants.
